Sydney DeWitt

My name is Sydney DeWitt and I am from Tri-Cities, WA. I am majoring in communications with a specialty in PR, and minoring in business here at WSU. I really want to work in event planning post college, specifically with music.

My primary role on our team is “the leader”, but we all help each other out and all work on things together. I am most excited in this class to learn how to brand our company and run a website selling a service, because I think I will use these tools in the future. I am not very good with things like building a website, so learning how to do so is really important to me this semester.

My immediate career aspirations include getting a job right out of college and working my way up to my long term career aspirations which is to work with a big venue or event planning company and plan music festivals. It has always been my dream to plan a large scale event, and I love music, so that is how I formed my dream job of planning music festivals. I have been to many festivals at the Gorge Amphitheater, including Sasquatch!, Paradiso, and Watershed.  And I have also made the trip up to Canada for Pemberton, an alternative/EDM music festival. All of these experiences have influenced me to pursue my dream job.

I have done multiple things to help myself reach my goal job, some of these include being the social chair for my sorority and I am currently help plan the WSU/Whitman county Relay For Life event. As social chair, I planned all of our social events for all 180 members including formals, date dashes, and exchanges with other chapters. For Relay For Life, I am on the board helping with entertainment planning for the 12 hour event and am working to get more greek chapters involved by making relay teams. Both of these experiences have helped me learn what it will be like to plan a large scale event.

Some good qualities I consider myself to have are that I am easy to work with, and think of myself as a go with the flow person. I enjoy working with others as well as am very comfortable and do well working alone. I love helping others and if there’s anything I believe that I can do to help with something, I will do it. I consider myself to be a problem solver. I don’t like conflict, and am very open to talking things through and doing everything possible to resolve it, whatever it may be. A special skill I bring to the table is planning, and my attention to detail. The finished product is very important to me and I put the time in to make sure it is as good as it can get.
