You Learn Something New Every Day!

Hello everyone! Are you ready to learn something new? Awesome!--we have some fun and interesting wedding facts we thought we'd share with you!

Do you know why we put our wedding rings on our third finger or why we use our left hand? According to the Bride’s Book of Etiquette, the rings are placed on the third finger of the left hand because the ancient Egyptians believed the vein in that hand ran directly to the heart. The Romans also believed this, and referred to it as the “vein of love”—how romantic!

One more very interesting fact, also provided by the etiquette book, revolves around the notion of modern-day groomsmen. Historically, in many cultures, the groom would kidnap the bride and the groom’s friends (the groomsmen) would help him find them. Once the couple arrived at the alter, the groom would stand at the bride’s right side so his sword hand (right hand) would be free to defend a jealous rival. If you’ve seen the television show “The Office,” you’ll know the character Dwight participated in a similar activity. If you wish to watch this episode (highly recommended comedy series), you can find it on Netflix or here on YouTube.
